1. Does PlayerReels violate NCAA regulations?

Not at all.  The NCAA rules of recruiting are important to understand and obey, but since PlayerReels doesn’t actively pursue college coaches on behalf of high school athletes, we remain within the boundaries of NCAA regulations.  It is up to you to invite the coach to visit your profile/reel, and the responsibility of accepting your invitation at the proper time in entirely placed on the college coach.  We strongly recommend that you study the NCAA regulations thoroughly as you move through this process.  You can get this information by going to: http://www2.ncaa.org/portal/legislation_and_governance/eligibility_and_recruiting/

2. Did you talk to any college coaches?

Absolutely. And there were three issues that were voiced:

1) When contacted by email, they want to see the email come from YOU! And that is why when you use our message tool (see #2 on our profile demo page) associated with your profile, the email that is sent to the coach or recruiter has YOUR email shown, not ours.

2) Coaches don't want to have to 'sign-up' for anything. They simply don't have the time. That is why we do not require any sort of membership (free or otherwise) for people who you email your profile link to.

3) Coaches do not want to have to click around a site 3 or 4 or 5 or more times to view your information. Because of this, when a coach receives the email with the link to your profile, EVERYTHING they need to see is just ONE click away with a video file that loads almost instantly.

3. Why couldn’t I simply set up a reel on myspace.com or something similar?

You could. But ask a college coach or recruiter if they would visit a 'myspace' page, and the answer will almost definitely be NO! And there are other advantages to being seen on PlayerReels.  The most important being that you can have the ability to email your profile page to as many college coaches that you'd like whether is be 5 or 500 . And once you are in our database, any coach looking for a player with your qualifications, your skills, or your talents can bring your profile up in a search query.  So not only are you on the radar of the coaches you contact, but you may be contacted by a coach or a school you didn’t consider.

4. Is there a problem sending an actual DVD to a coach?

Not necessarily.  This is actually how most recruiting is being done right now.  But imagine a stack of DVDs on a coach’s desk and how little time they have to actually sit down at a computer and start loading and unloading each DVD.  Now imagine sending an email to a coach with a link to your profile on PlayerReels.com.  The coach clicks on the link and presto, you’re being looked at.  The door has been opened.  It’s that simple. And there is NO limit on the number of emails you can send out using our message tool.

5. Why does PlayerReels use the “flv” format for output?

Flash Video is simply where the technology is headed.  It is estimated that the two most popular video formats, .wmv (Windows Media - PC) and .mov (Quicktime - MAC) can only reach 86% and 74% of all the computers. However, flash media, since it is not dependent upon a particular operating system, is estimated to play on over 99% of all computers - PC or MAC. Flash Video also doesn’t require as much bandwidth, thus enabling us to keep our pricing down.

6. Do I have to have PlayerReels edit my reel for me?

No.  You can select another editor for your reel, or you can try to edit it yourself.  PlayerReels first order of business is as a hosting site for your sports highlight reel.

7. How can I get footage for my reel?

There are many ways.  Simply having a friend or parent shoot your sporting event on video is a good start.  Photography companies can be hired to give the footage a professional look.  PlayerReels has a deluxe package where we find such a company for you in your area and help you work with them to develop a raw footage reel, which can be sent to us for editing and hosting purposes.  You may also want to ask your coach if he/she has had any games/events videotaped, and if you could have access to the footage.

8. If I shoot my own footage, what kind of formats should I shoot in?

Our editors have their own equipment and work in Hollywood on television and movie projects.  Their systems can handle anything from mini-DV to ¾ videotape, from DVD to Digibeta.  We will convert whatever you have to work with it and output it in a timely manner.

9. How long will my reel be visible to coaches?

We have three hosting packages to choose from.  The three-month plan is only $60.00 and will be visible online for 90 days.  The one-year plan is $100.00 and keeps the profile and reel up for 365 days.  And we also offer a two year plan for $175. That’s more than enough time to catch the eye of college recruiters, and once you’re uploaded, you can be searched out 24 hours a day.

10. How do I send my footage to PlayerReels?

If you need editing work done, then the easiest way is to send your raw footage in whatever format you have to:

PlayerReels, LLC
PO Box 1795
Glendora, CA 91741

If you already have a reel done, you can simply upload your footage as part of the registration process. It will then be converted to Flash Video format and will become part of your player profile.

11. How quickly will I see my profile/reel after sending in my footage?

The turnaround time depends on how much work needs to be done.  If you’re only sending us raw footage to edit into a reel, then you may expect an output to the Web within one week of receiving your materials.  If your reel is already complete, then we can set you up with a profile for your reel within 48 hours of receiving your materials.  It is entirely up to you whether or not you wish to send your materials priority or overnight mail, which will speed up the process, but we will have to check over all visual materials before we upload, to make sure nothing of a suspicious or unworthy nature is uploaded on our site.

12. How can I be sure the information on a profile is correct?

PlayerReels is in no way responsible for checking the accuracy of the information sent to us.  It would be impossible for us to do this.  We rely on the athlete to be honest and accurate with their profile information which comes directly from our online questionnaire.  Players will have the ability to update their information when needed.
